The Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area has some of the most hard working, dedicated staff imaginable. They work tirelessly to make sure the animals are not just fed and cleaned up after but also comfortable during their stay at the shelter. Meet our Staff!
Sarah Hammond is our Executive Director and has been with HSNBA since January of 2015. She is living her dream of not only saving animals all day as her regular gig but giving a forever home to her 4 shelter dogs and 4 shelter cats!
Shelley Roberts has dedicated the last ELEVEN years to HSNBA! She started as a kennel tech in 2006 and has worked herself up to be the invaluable staff member who seems to have all the answers! There isn’t anything Shelley can’t do and when not working enjoys time with her husband, adopted dog and cat and spoiling her grandkids!
Will Stapleton is the heart and soul of HSNBA. If you have visited, you’ve undoubtedly met him! His passion for the shelter is unrivaled but we guess you could say HSNBA is in his blood as his mother has served the HSNBA board since before he was born! There isn’t much Will doesn’t do around the shelter – from processing applications, managing the Facebook page, heartworm tests and microchips! Will has “officially” been on staff for 3 years, but has been a part of HSNBA much longer!
We have watched Noel Riordon really blossom here at HSNBA! She is our Kennel Supervisor and works tirelessly to make sure our critters feel safe and loved during their stay with us. Noel is a charismatic dynamo we are lucky to have on the team!
Matthew Vrba has been with us a little over a year now and he’s our resident chihuahua whisperer. Whenever we have a little dog that is too overwhelmed by shelter life, it’s Matthew to the rescue! There’s no job too big or too small for Matthew, he takes care of our shelter with a smile on his face, a ready and willing attitude and a real gift for handling animals!
Lauren Kieschnick started off her tenure with us as a Customer Care Representative but has recently moved into Animal Care. She has a deep connection with the animals she cares for and can bring out the best of even the most agitated dog. Lauren is always willing to go that extra step when it comes to caring for our critters!
Amber Johnson is our Shelter Health Technician and Foster Coordinator! She has a long history of animal care and sheltering and lends her vet tech knowledge to the guests here at our shelter. Amber insures everyone stays vaccinated, and parasite free and prepares all the animals for our weekly spay and neuter clinic to get fixed before adoption. When not at the shelter, she is active in horse rescue and corralling her two young boys and young at heart hubby!
Amber Clark brings a wealth of knowledge from a varied and unique background. She has an intense love of animals and her home sports two of the most charming little bundles of love and entertainment you’ve ever met! Amber is our Outreach Coordinator and brings her spectacular blend of wit, charisma and intelligence to Offsite Adoption Events all over town. She manages our ever changing kitty inventory at PetsMart at Creekside and has started dabbling in development and fundraising. Be sure to say hello when you see her out and about in NB!
Darian Patrick is a breath of sunshine at our front desk where she recently moved from being an Animal Care Technician. Her calm, no nonsense demeanor gives visitors the feeling they are in good hands! And they are, she is a wealth of knowledge and is constantly learning, jumping on any oppurtunity to try something new and learn new skills. When Darian isn’t working, this social butterfly is enjoying time out with friends and family and her fur babies at home!
Gabby Togo is juggling working with us as an Animal Care Technician with going to school full time. She never seems to sit down and is always on the go, jumping in wherever and when ever she is needed to get everything done and make sure each and every animal in her care is as comfortable as possible. She is the proud pup parent to two adorable pit mixes who live in the lap of luxury in her home! She is the first HSNBA employee to win Employee of the Month before her probation period was even over! She is a quiet but mighty worker and we are proud to have her on the team!
Sean Reus is a breath of fresh air here at HSNBA! While he has a long and varied past work history, it’s clear working with animals is his calling. He knows first hand how an animal can change your life for the better and makes sure each animal here gets the best chance at finding a 2nd chance. He gravitates towards the ‘difficult’ dogs and helps them come out of their shells and become the adoptable pet they were meant to be. He is also teaching himself a great deal of shelter health, eager and willing to jump in helping with all manner of tasks – from doing fecals to helping at the surgery clinic. It took him a while to find us, but we are so glad he did!
We only see Amber Skye part time but she keeps the Front Desk humming! She is a consummate organizer (thank goodness!) and ready to jump in wherever needed to keep things moving. Born and raised right here in New Braunfels, she understands our clients and works hard to meet their needs. When she’s not working or studying, she enjoys playing video games in her down time. Ask her if she is a dog or cat person and her answer is BOTH! As she shares her home with a dachshund and an awesome orange tabby cat.
Gina Meredith seems a little shy and reserved at first but as soon as you get her talking about dogs she lights up like a Christmas Tree! She is a great addition to our Front Desk team and loves matching adopters with their new pets and reuniting lost dogs with their frantic owners! She and her husband have a rescued doberman pinscher who is the light of their lives, and it’s a good thing because he weighs in over 100 pounds! Gina is a very talented photographer (she took all of our staff pictures!) and has a photography biz on the side. We never know what’s gonna happen with Gina around, and we love having her on the team!
