Who We Are

Thank you for contacting the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) Program, which provides free sterilizations and Rabies / FVRCP vaccinations for feral cats in Comal and Guadalupe County. YOUR participation aids in reducing the number of cats entering our shelter, while providing a happier and healthier life for local, community cats. In previous years, feral cats in New Braunfels delivered to the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area by Animal Control or private citizens were euthanized. Now, the New Braunfels community sterilizes and immunizes feral cats and returns them to the area where they have been living.

To use our program, please follow the steps below:

1) Rent or Buy a Trap: Traps can be rented from the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area (HSNBA) (Monday to Friday 10am-7pm and Saturday 10am-4pm) by leaving a deposit via check for $75. You can also purchase a live trap for around $50-$75 from a hardware or feed store. We recommend Tru-Catch Traps which can be purchased online here. All feral cats must arrive in a humane trap in order to safely sedate the cat before surgery. HSNBA staff are unable to trap or transport cats for you.

2) Trap the Cat: We recommend trapping the feral cat on a weekend. The cat should be dropped off on MONDAY at HSNBA. If a cat IS NOT FERAL, it will be introduced into the shelter to be adopted. WE ONLY ACCEPTS FERAL CATS. Find out more about what constitutes as a “feral cat” in our TNR FAQ Section .

Make sure the cat is more than 3lbs or three months old. Do not trap nursing moms and underage kittens. Leave them in place until they are done nursing or they are old enough for surgery.

3) Make a Reservation: CLICK HERE to reserve a slot ONCE YOU HAVE TRAPPED THE CAT up to 3 days in advance for 2 cats each week for TNR Clinic. This new system of “First trapped. First served.”

4) Drop Cat Off: Drops offs are on MONDAY at 3353 Morningside Drive on Monday (unless Monday is a holiday, then drop offs will be on Tuesdays)

5) Return and Repeat as Needed: Hold the cat overnight to make sure there are no complications and release the following morning where you found it originally! The cat should look and behave as before, and the surgery site should be clean. Leave the cat in the trap and call us if you have any concerns.
