CatsFosteringKittens

It’s February, and you know what that means…kitten season is just around the corner! This year, we are doing something that we have wanted to do for a long time. We are doing a kitten kit drive for the months of February, March, and April to allow the New Braunfels community to make a hands-on difference. Y’all did so great with the stockings that we believe this will be just as successful!

“What’s a kitten kit?” you might ask. A kitten kit, like the name implies, is a kit that we can give to bottle baby fosters. Bottle babies are hard enough as it is, and we want to make the process as easy as possible for fosters by providing them with the necessities for keeping those little kittens alive. This includes:

  • A box
  • Towels/Blankets
  • Stuffed animal to replicate mom
  • Milk, nipples, syringes, and bottles
  • Heat source
  • Newspaper for easy cleanup

Also, we are hoping these kitten kits will make it much easier for us to find willing fosters because everything is already put together for them. Even if you can only collect newspapers or make heatable rice socks, it helps tremendously! Most items can be used like towels, blankets, stuffed animals, and plastic bins or it can be made like the heatable rice socks. The main things that will need to be bought are the formula, bottles, and nipples (formula most importantly!).

For a sample of items to purchase, we have put together a kitten kit list just so you know where to start (check out this amazon list here: https://a.co/7I0QN7a). We recommend getting with 5-10 other people since some of these items (like bottles and nipples) are bought in bulk. This way, you can spread it over many different kitten kits. You can also buy large kitten milk replacer formula in bulk and divide it up into different baggies for several kits. The sky’s the limit, and there are so many options to make this work!

Our goal is 100+ kitten kits! Talk to your youth group, dance and cheer teams, sports teams, classrooms, etc and have a friendly competition on who can put the most kitten kits together. By providing these items, not only are you helping HSNBA save precious monetary funds, but you are also directly helping save the lives of some of our most vulnerable shelter animals!
